A workplan signed between Iran and IWWIP on 18 February, 2010.

International Winter Wheat Improvement Program (IWWIP) utilizes tremendous agro-ecological diversity of Turkey, including Tel Hadya, Syria. IWWIP does not only utilize the climatological diversity but also biotic-, such as Rusts (YR, Lr, Sr), Septoria, Bunts etc. and abiotic stresses, such as cold, drought, high temperature, nutrient toxicities and deficiencies etc. diversity of the environments. But there are still some areas can not be addressed in those environments properly where in IWWIP target areas. The Winter Wheat high altitude wheat growing areas and warm areas of Iran are such areas can be used as example.

IWWIP and Iranian scientists came together to find out how this could be addressed in a collaborative work. They developed a workplan that will be implemented in coming years to address these issues. Workplan covers parent selections, material and segregation populations exchange, exposing the material to diverse growing conditions and making parallel or counter selections and testing the material in target environments. The outcomes will be the result of joint efforts of Iranian and IWWIP scientists, which will help increasing the livelihood of farmers.

A meeting was held in Karaj, Iran to discuss the workplan. The workplan has been signed between IWWIP and Seed and Plant Improvement Institute (SPPII), and Dryland Agriculture Research Institute (DARI) in Karaj, Iran on 18 February, 2010.
