Visit of Scientists from CIMMYT Global Wheat Program (GWP) to Türkiye
A group of scientists from the
CIMMYT Global Wheat Program (GWP) undertook a visit to Turkey. The primary aim
of this visit was to conduct field visits to various National Agricultural
Research Institutes, where trials of IWWIP winter wheat and CIMMYT spring wheat
are evaluated. Furthermore, the group had fruitful exchanges and made valuable
dialogues on key topics such as breeding methodologies, pathology, quality
assurance, and quantitative genetics with the national researcher teams at
these Turkish institutes.
The itinerary included visits to
the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) alongside
six national agricultural research institutes, as follows:
- Thrace Agriculture Research
Institute – June 2nd, Edirne
- Maize Research Institute – June
3rd, Sakarya
- Transitional Zone Agricultural
Research Institute – June 4th, Eskisehir
- Bahri Dagdas International
Agricultural Research Institute – June 5th, Konya
- Field Crops Central Research
Institute – June 6th, Ankara
- Aegean Agricultural Research
Institute – June 8th, Izmir
There were field visits and
collaborative discussions held at each institute. National collaborators shared
information about their ongoing research activities and projects and provided
details and facts about the infrastructure of the research facilities where
IWWIP and other programs utilizes such as international seed preparation unit,
quality labs, pathology, rust greenhouse etc.
